Small Buckets. Big Impact.
Every day, perfectly good food scraps from our community get tossed into the trash and hauled away to a landfill. We started asking ourselves: What can we do to help fix this gap in recycling right here in Granville?
The answer was pretty simple: make composting easier and more accessible for our neighbors. Not by asking everyone to build a compost pile, buy a pitchfork, study carbon-to-nitrogen ratios, or become a person who gets unusually excited about worms. Instead, we could make composting simple, clean, local, and easy enough for everyone in our community to recycle their food waste.
That became Scrappy Soil.
We give you a bucket. You fill it with food scraps. Every other week, we pick it up from your doorstep and swap it for a clean one. Your scraps stay out of the landfill and get a second life as local compost.
One household and one five-gallon bucket might not feel like much. But hundreds of Granville households doing it together? Now we’re getting somewhere. Just 1,500 neighbors composting their food scraps could help keep more than 500,000 pounds of food waste out of landfills each year.
We’re raising our kids right here in Granville, and we want to show them that they have the power to take action and make a real, positive impact on their community, their planet, and their future.
You don’t have to solve an enormous problem all at once. Find something you can make better. Start small. Invite your neighbors. And get to work.
Sometimes that work just happens to involve a bucket full of banana peels.
With love,
